Activities August 2012

  • Vocational visit to Mawhoods IGA where we were shown the workings of grocery retail outlet, and given an insight into the history of this family owned iconic Oberon store. Warwick (no 1 son of the current generation) was an excellent host and source of information. He gave us all an insight into the past and changes made when the grocery store split from the hardware component of a business established by his grandfather in the early 1930’s. Thanks Warwick – As mentioned a few weeks ago, Warwick’s grandmother, Bess Adams – wife of almost charter member Allan Adams – was 100 on the 24th July.
  • We were visited by the DG – in addition to some of his personal background, Greg encouraged the Club to “keep up the good work” . Streamlined District Directories are available from the President. The snow was an added bonus – thanks Pat for showing a potentially snowbound AG the back way out of Oberon.
  • Suzanne circulated some incoming correspondence from Bowel Scan who advised us of the status of the community testing result held earlier in the year.  It was good to see that the Oberon results were all clear.
  • Murray Paterson visited to give us an updated on progress of the Nepalese Building Programme.
