Become a Rotary Foundation Centurion!

DG Geoff has lifted the target for donations to The Rotary Foundation to $50,000 for 2006-07. There are two channels: club contributions (the Foundation is traditionally a priority item in Oberon’s budgeting) and individual contributions through the Centurion Club.

The District 9700 Centurion Club was established in 1998-99 by then District Governor Peter Walsh. Rotarians are asked to contribute $100 annually to the Centurion Club (tax deductible). There are currently 43 members of the Club, who have pledged $4,400 between them for the current Rotary year.

Following Peter and his wife Helen’s tragic deaths last year, Peter’s successor as DG in 1999-2000, Nevin Hughes, has taken the project on. I refer to the October Centurion Newsletter in which Nevin says he hopes eventually to establish a matching-grant project in Peter and Helen’s honour. They were also Isobel’s and my friends, and I heartily endorse PDG Nevin’s appeal.

I urge my fellow Oberon Rotarians to join as Centurions, thus helping DG Geoff to meet his target as well as honouring Peter and Helen.

Please read the attached newsletter for a full update, and the application form!                                        Hans
